Did not bother, and I’m a pretty big fan of these knuckleheads. Is anyone with me? Or am I full of shit?

Saw this from a taxi this morning - thin on the ground here. That’s ... 8 years old?

Loved the first part. Hated the second part.

I can deal with Clarkson pretending to follow the Southern Cross (rediculous, but theoretically possible), but I don’t have any patience for him driving around the bush pretending to hunt poachers in a metalflake beach buggy (he’s never going to find one and they’ll just shoot him if he does).

It’s an entertainment show, that sometimes has cars in it. I’ve viewed the GT as such and have enjoyed it, even if it is scripted.

I wish they could’ve done what they would have done in TG, which is buy some cheap cars on the local market then drive them. However, I’m sure a cheap car challenge would be infringing on TG, so it seems they can’t. Which is a shame, because those episodes were my favorite. The first Africa special still remains my favorite episode of top gear.

I didn’t finish the first of the buggy episodes and I skipped the second. The one after that was pretty entertaining though.

Of those sorts of episodes, for me the Polar special was the best, India the worst. Also, my favorites include the BL challenge and the Italian supercar challenge. The Top Gear folks now own Stig, Star in a reasonably priced car, some of my favorite things. But they still can get a note from the producers that says: go buy X and bring them to Y. Would love to see another BL challenge.

That’s true - I did rather like the Berks to the Future episode. Jeremy building dumb things is usually entertaining. At this point, I wonder if we expect too much from them. It’s hard to keep making quality TV year after year. Breaking Bad ended when it needed to, but Walking Dead has gone on too long, and we’ve fallen off that wagon. Better Call Saul lost us after 1/2 a season. Star Trek TNG went south about season 5, and it’s now utterly unwatchable. May’s shows are very good, but the new reassembly show is rather dull.

The problem is that they can’t go back to “drive to Birmingham and do some tests” sorts of challenges anymore. The cheap car challenges started escalating and becoming grander and more ambitious until now the bare minimum they can do is a 1000mile road trip.

I’ve watched and enjoyed them all. Glad we can continue to enjoy them, post cold cut fracas.

Even if only the specials were cheap car challenges, I’d be fine with it

I’ve liked all of the Grand Tour so far, and loved some of them. Including the second episode. I think you just have to know what to expect.

I can get shitty about TV series, but then again I won’t judge someone who loves every episode of a series they love. Better Call Saul went away for us, and a few more. TGT might go away, but I think eventually I’ll watch all of it. But we’re in a new world now, and Top Gear is dead.

I didn’t watch any of the new new Top Gear. We got rid of cable about a year ago, so we only saw season one of Better Call Saul.

But for some fairly minor tweaks, TGT may as well stand for Top Gear in a Tent. It’s the same show it was. Now, if you’re sick of that, I can understand that. I was hoping for more changes myself, but I’m enjoying what they’re giving us.
